Stitch steps: Whipped & laced stitches

Worked on a foundation row of running stitch or backstitch, whipped and laced stitches add texture and interest to a project and they can be used decoratively or to depict things such as rope. The two or three journeys of the stitch can all be worked in a single colour, but using tones of one colour or contrasting colours gives them a different effect.
